Most icons are ready in one to three minutes and are saved to [My icons](https://aiiconcreator.com/my-creations) automatically, where you can edit them or download a PNG and a complete icon pack for iOS, Android and the web. This guide walks through each step in the [icon studio](https://aiiconcreator.com/workspace). ### Step 1: Describe the subject Type what your app icon should show into the box at the top of the studio. One short sentence is enough: "A rocket", "A calm whale", "A camera". Keep it to a single object and leave out words, logos and whole scenes. Small icons only have room for one clear idea. [How to write a prompt for an app icon](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/write-an-icon-prompt) shows what works and what doesn't. ### Step 2: Choose a style Below the subject box, pick a style from the strip. The style decides **how** your icon is drawn: flat and graphic, soft 3D, glass, metal or a friendly character. Once a style is selected, you may see extra options under it: - **Rendering**: a few styles come in more than one version, such as Minimal and Lively for Playful characters. - **Advanced settings**: colours, backgrounds or expressions for that style. Every option starts on a sensible default, often **Auto**, where the model chooses for you, so you can skip this. A few styles have no settings at all. Not sure which style fits your app? See [the 20 icon styles explained](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/icon-styles-guide), or open **Browse all 20 styles** to filter and search the full library. ### Step 3: Pick Clean or Detailed and generate Next to the button, choose a level: - **Clean**: simpler shapes and faster results. Good for trying ideas. - **Detailed**: richer detail. Good once you know which direction you want. Then click **Generate icon**. The button shows how many credits the icon will use before you commit. Generation runs in the background: - You can queue **up to 4 icons at once**, keep writing new subjects, or leave the page. - Most icons finish in **1–3 minutes**. Detailed icons in a few styles can take 5–10 minutes. - If an icon doesn't finish, your credits are returned automatically. See [what happens when a generation fails](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/failed-generations-and-refunds). ### Where your icons are saved Every icon, and every version you make of it, is saved to [My icons](https://aiiconcreator.com/my-creations). Open one to rename it, check it at real sizes, adjust it or download it. Deleting an icon only removes that version; the others stay. ### What to do next - **Almost right?** [Edit the icon](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/edit-an-icon): change the whole icon, or just one area such as a colour or a detail. - **Ready to ship?** [Download your icon](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/download-and-export) as a PNG or as an icon pack with every iOS, Android and web size. - **Publishing to a store?** Check the [App Store and Google Play icon requirements](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/app-icon-requirements) first. - **Have a photo or logo already?** [Turn it into an app icon](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/photo-to-app-icon). ### Frequently asked questions ### Do I need design skills to make an app icon with AI? No. You describe the subject in plain words and choose a style; the model handles shape, colour and lighting. Design knowledge helps you judge the result, and our blog covers [app icon design principles](https://aiiconcreator.com/blog/app-icon-design-principles) if you want to go deeper. ### Can I make several icons at the same time? Yes. Up to 4 icons or adjustments can run at once. When one finishes, you can start another. ### What size is the icon I get? A full square PNG with no rounded corners, ready for app stores. The one exception is Fused glass, which comes with the phone icon outline already applied. The [icon pack](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/download-and-export) adds every size iOS, Android and browsers need. --- ### App Icon Styles: The 20 Styles Explained URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/icon-styles-guide AI Icon Creator has **20 app icon styles** in four groups: flat and graphic, dimensional, materials and characters. The style decides how your icon is drawn; your description decides what it shows. Pick the style that matches your app's personality and how small the icon needs to read. ### Flat and graphic styles Bold shapes with no lighting or texture. These are the easiest styles to recognise at small sizes, which makes them a safe choice for tools and brands. | Style | What it looks like | Good for | | -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- | | Clean flat | One crisp, simple graphic on a solid or gradient background | Utilities, productivity and brand-first apps | | Edge negative | A single bold silhouette that touches one edge of the icon | Bold brands that must read at tiny sizes | | Geometric expression | A simple shape with a hand-drawn face | Habit, mood and quirky indie apps | | Pixel art | Chunky pixels with a crisp dark outline | Games, retro tools and playful utilities | | Die-cut sticker | A flat illustration with a thick white sticker border | Social, kids and lifestyle apps | | Minimal line | One even line, no fill, on a calm plain background (light, dark or black and white) | Home-screen themes, productivity and tools | ### Dimensional styles Soft volume and light, without going photorealistic. | Style | What it looks like | Good for | | ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ | | Clay 3D | Rounded, matte clay shapes | Wellness, lifestyle and calm consumer apps | | Glossy 3D | A smooth, glossy symbol raised off a pale background | Letter marks, launchers and system-style tools | | Folded ribbon | A continuous ribbon, or hard folded facets | Developer tools, design apps and abstract brands | | Matte tinted silhouette | A soft, translucent silhouette | Music, meditation and ambient apps | | Halloween | Cute Halloween candy, or layered paper cut-outs with a pumpkin glow | Seasonal campaigns, games and party apps | ### Material styles Rich surfaces that stand out on a home screen. | Style | What it looks like | Good for | | ---------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | | Refined metal | Controlled chrome and silver reflections | Finance, security and pro tools | | Fused glass | Full-bleed glass with a tinted subject | Creative, media and premium consumer apps | | Coloured frosted glass | Tinted, softly glowing frosted panes | Weather, travel and photo apps | | Y2K liquid chrome | Puffy liquid metal with an iridescent shine (iridescent, pink or dark) | Music, fashion and social apps with a retro-future feel | | Neon tube | Glowing neon tubes on a dark wall | Music, nightlife and entertainment apps | ### Character styles Friendly mascots with personality. They work best when your subject is an animal, an object with a face, or a mascot. | Style | What it looks like | Good for | | -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------- | | Minimal friendly character | A friendly character head with a glow | Companion, kids and journaling apps | | Playful characters | Large, friendly shapes | Games, social and playful utilities | | Monoline character | Friendly, simple black lines with a small accent colour | Pets, notes and friendly everyday apps | | Glass-crash toy | A plush animal toy pressed against glass | Kids, games and mascot-led brands | Glass-crash toy works best with furry animals such as rabbits, cats, bears or foxes. ### Renderings: two looks within one style A few styles come in more than one **rendering**. Selecting the style picks the rendering shown in its thumbnail, and the other choices appear under the style: - **Refined metal**: Mirror-silver symbol, Black-silver membrane or Bevelled panel. - **Minimal friendly character**: Black matte or White face, bold outline. - **Playful characters**: Minimal or Lively. - **Folded ribbon**: Ribbon curves or Hard facets. ### How to choose an app icon style 1. **Start from how small it will be.** If the icon must work at 29–40 px, flat and graphic styles hold up best. Our guide to [keeping icons legible at small sizes](https://aiiconcreator.com/blog/small-size-icon-legibility) explains why. 2. **Match your app's personality.** A banking app and a kids' game need very different feelings. [How to choose a style for your app icon](https://aiiconcreator.com/blog/choose-an-app-icon-style) goes through common app categories. 3. **Try two or three styles with the same subject.** Generating the same description in a few app icon styles side by side is the fastest way to decide. ### Favourites and the full library Hover a style and tap the heart to save it to **Favorites**; your recently used styles also appear under **Recent** in the library. Both are saved in your current browser. To see every style with larger samples, open **Browse all 20 styles** in the studio or visit the [style library](https://aiiconcreator.com/styles). ### Frequently asked questions ### Which app icon style is easiest to read at small sizes? Clean flat and Edge negative. They use one bold shape and strong contrast, so they stay recognisable on a crowded home screen. ### Why do some styles have no advanced settings? For Clay 3D, Monoline character, Halloween, Y2K liquid chrome, Pixel art, Neon tube, Die-cut sticker and Minimal line, the colours are always chosen by the model to keep the look consistent; some of them let you switch between a few versions instead. Other styles let you set colours, backgrounds or expressions; see [colours and advanced settings](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/icon-colors-and-settings). ### Can I use the same subject in different styles? Yes. Your description stays in the box when you switch styles, so you can generate it again in another style straight away. --- ### How to Write a Prompt for an AI App Icon URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/write-an-icon-prompt The best prompt for an AI app icon names **one subject** and, if needed, **one detail that makes it recognisable**: "a coffee cup with steam", "a fox head", "a folded paper plane". Leave the drawing style, colours and text out of the prompt; the style and its settings handle those. ### One subject, not a scene An app icon is seen at 30 to 180 pixels. A whole scene turns into noise at that size, while a single subject stays readable. If your app is about a coffee shop, draw the thing people remember: the cup. For more ways to turn what your app does into one shape, see [icon metaphors](https://aiiconcreator.com/blog/icon-metaphors). ### A simple prompt formula **Subject + one key detail + (optional) what it is for.** | Prompt | Why it works | | --- | --- | | A camera | One familiar object | | A fox head with big ears | The detail makes the animal unmistakable | | A paper plane taking off | The action adds energy without adding objects | | A calm whale for a meditation app | The purpose sets the mood | | The letter Z | A single letter works well for letter marks, especially in Glossy 3D | Short prompts are fine. One sentence is usually better than a paragraph. ### What to leave out - **Words and app names.** Text inside icons is hard to read and often comes out misspelled. Keep your name for the app title; a single letter is the only text worth trying. - **Style words** such as "flat", "3D", "glass" or "metallic". The [style](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/icon-styles-guide) you pick already decides the look, and conflicting words can pull the result in two directions. - **Colours.** If the style has colour options, set them in [advanced settings](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/icon-colors-and-settings). If it doesn't, the model picks colours that suit your subject. - **Frames, rounded corners and backgrounds.** Every icon is made as a full square; app stores and phones add the rounded shape themselves. See [app icon requirements](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/app-icon-requirements). ### Expressions in Geometric expression Geometric expression reads the expression from your prompt. "A laughing circle" or "a sleepy cloud" gets that expression, drawn with two eyes and a mouth. If you choose an expression in advanced settings, your choice wins over the prompt. ### When the result isn't what you pictured 1. **Add the detail that makes it recognisable.** "A dog" can be any dog; "a corgi with short legs" is specific. 2. **Remove extras.** Every additional object competes for space. 3. **Try another style.** Some subjects simply suit one look better. 4. **Fix a detail instead of starting over.** [Edit one area](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/edit-an-icon) of the icon, such as a colour or a small part. ### Frequently asked questions ### Can I put my app name inside the icon? We don't recommend it. Apple's guidelines also advise including text only when it's essential, because small text is hard to read and can't be translated. Use a single letter or a symbol instead. ### How long should an AI icon prompt be? One short sentence, usually 3 to 12 words. Longer prompts tend to add objects that crowd the icon. ### Can I write the prompt in another language? Yes. Prompts in English and Chinese both work. Write the subject the way you would describe it to a designer. --- ### App Icon Colours and Advanced Settings Explained URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/icon-colors-and-settings Advanced settings let you control the parts of an app icon that a style allows you to change, usually **colours**, sometimes a **background**, an **edge** or an **expression**. Many options start on **Auto**, which means the model chooses a colour that suits your subject. Choose a recommended colour or type a HEX value when you need your icon to match a brand. Open **Advanced settings** under the selected style in the [icon studio](https://aiiconcreator.com/workspace). **Reset choices** at the bottom puts everything back to the defaults. ### Auto or your own app icon colours - **Auto** is the quickest way to good results, and a good choice while you are still exploring ideas. Colours can differ from one generation to the next. - **A recommended colour** is a preset that is known to work well with the style. - **A custom colour** takes any HEX value, such as `#2F6BFF`. Use it to match your brand. ### Example: backgrounds in Clean flat Clean flat has the most flexible background: Auto, a solid colour, or a two-colour gradient with a direction. Once you choose a background, **Subject colour** appears next to it. Leave it on Auto and the subject is coloured to stand out on that background, for example white on a deep blue or a dark tone of the same hue on a pale pink. ### What each style lets you set | Style | Advanced settings | | -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Clean flat | Background (Auto, solid or gradient with direction) and subject colour | | Clay 3D | None. Colours are always chosen by the model | | Refined metal | None. Pick one of three renderings instead | | Minimal friendly character | Glow colour, from presets or your own | | Edge negative | Background colour and the edge the shape touches | | Fused glass | Glass colour, from presets or your own | | Playful characters | Subject and background colours (Minimal rendering only) | | Glossy 3D | Symbol colour and background tone | | Folded ribbon | Background colour | | Monoline character | None. The accent colour is chosen by the model | | Geometric expression | Shape colour and expression (8 presets or your own words) | | Coloured frosted glass | Glass palette: Auto or one of 8 palettes | | Matte tinted silhouette | Background colour | | Glass-crash toy | Background colour. The toy's colour is always chosen to suit the animal | | Halloween | None. Pick Candy night or Paper-cut glow instead | | Y2K liquid chrome | None. Pick Iridescent, Pink or Dark instead | | Pixel art | None. Colours are always chosen by the model | | Neon tube | None. Colours are always chosen by the model | | Die-cut sticker | None. Colours are always chosen by the model | | Minimal line | None. Pick Light, Dark or Black & white instead | Not sure which style to use? See [the 20 icon styles explained](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/icon-styles-guide). ### Why a colour gets flagged Some styles need enough contrast to stay readable. If a colour would not work, the studio tells you, either as you type it or when you click **Generate icon**, and the icon is not generated, so **no credits are used**. Common messages: - **"This colour is too light to see on white"** or **"too dark for the face lines to show"**: pick a mid-tone colour. - **"This background is too dark for the style"**: choose a lighter background. - **"The two gradient colours are too close"**: pick two colours that differ more. - **"These colours are too close"**: increase the contrast between the subject and the background. ### Tips for app icon brand colours 1. Put your main brand colour where it matters most for that style: usually the background in Clean flat and Edge negative, or the subject in Geometric expression. 2. If a brand colour is flagged, try a slightly lighter or darker shade of it. 3. Check the result at real sizes before you ship, and if one colour is slightly off, [edit the icon](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/edit-an-icon) with **Fine-tune colours** instead of generating it again. The [colour guide on our blog](https://aiiconcreator.com/blog/app-icon-colors) covers contrast and home-screen visibility in more depth. ### Frequently asked questions ### Can I keep exactly the same colours across several icons? Yes. Choose a recommended colour or type the same HEX value for each icon instead of using Auto. Auto may pick different colours each time. ### Can I write the colour in my prompt instead? It's better to use advanced settings when a style has them; see [how to write a prompt](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/write-an-icon-prompt). Colour words in the prompt can conflict with the settings. For styles without colour settings, the model chooses colours that suit the subject. ### Do flagged colours cost credits? No. The check happens before generation starts, and no credits are used. --- ### How to Edit an AI-Generated Icon: Whole Icon or One Area URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/edit-an-icon To edit an icon you've generated, open it and click **Adjust this icon**. Choose **Whole icon** to change the overall look, or **Choose areas** to change only a part, describe the change, and click **Create new version**. The edit runs in the background, and the result is saved as a new version while your original stays untouched. You'll find **Adjust this icon** under a finished result in the [icon studio](https://aiiconcreator.com/workspace) and in any icon you open from [My icons](https://aiiconcreator.com/my-creations). ### Edit the whole icon Use **Whole icon** for changes that affect everything: a bolder shape, fewer details, more space around the subject, or new colours. - Tap a quick suggestion such as **Bolder shape**, **Fewer details** or **More breathing room**, or write your own instruction. - Under **Fine-tune colours**, choose **Custom colours** to set a new subject or background colour with a HEX value, or keep the current ones. ### Edit one area Use **Choose areas** when only one part is wrong, such as a colour, a small detail or an extra element. 1. Pick how to select: **Point to object** (click the part) or **Box select** (drag a box around it). 2. Describe what should change in that area, for example "Make the flame bright pink". 3. Add up to **3 areas**, each with its own instruction. All changes run together in one new version. 4. Leave **Keep the rest similar** on so everything outside your areas stays as close to the original as possible. Selections guide the edit, but nearby details can shift slightly. Always check the full result. ### After you submit - The adjustment runs in the background. You can close the window, keep working, or submit more adjustments. - When it's ready, you'll see **Adjustment ready**. Click **View** to compare the original with the new version side by side. - Up to 4 generations and adjustments can run at the same time. ### Version history Every adjustment adds a version to the same icon. Open the icon in [My icons](https://aiiconcreator.com/my-creations) and use **Version history** to switch between them. - You can adjust any version again, including the original. - Deleting a version only removes that version. The others stay in your library. ### How to write a good edit instruction | Instead of | Try | | --- | --- | | "Make it better" | "Make the outline thicker and remove the small stars" | | "Change the colour" | "Make the flame bright pink" | | "Fix the background" | "Change the background to deep navy" | Name the part, then say exactly what should happen to it. One change per area works best. ### Frequently asked questions ### Does editing an icon use credits? Yes. Each new version uses credits, and the amount is shown in the adjust window before you submit. If an adjustment doesn't finish, the credits are returned automatically; see [failed generations and refunds](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/failed-generations-and-refunds). ### Will editing change my original icon? No. Every edit creates a new version, and the original stays saved in your version history. ### Why did parts outside my selected area change? The model redraws the icon with your selection as a guide, so nearby details can move slightly. Keep **Keep the rest similar** on, draw a tighter box, or describe the part more precisely. --- ### How to Use Image to Icon: Photo, Sketch and Logo Tips URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/photo-to-app-icon To use Image to icon, upload a photo, sketch or logo, write one line saying what it shows, pick a style and generate. The picture is used only to recognise the **subject**: its shape, proportions and defining features. Colours, lighting and drawing style come from the style you choose, so you get a brand-new icon, not a filtered photo. ### Two places to start - **The [Image to icon](https://aiiconcreator.com/tools/image-to-icon) tool.** Upload a picture, describe it, pick a style and generate. - **The [icon studio](https://aiiconcreator.com/workspace).** Click the picture button in the subject box, add your picture, and generate as usual. ### Step by step 1. **Upload a picture.** JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB. On the Image to icon page you can also drag it in or paste it. 2. **Describe the subject in one line**, for example "over-ear headphones" or "a desk lamp". This matters most for logos, sketches and photos with several objects in them. 3. **Choose a style.** Pictures work with 17 styles: Clean flat, Clay 3D, Refined metal, Edge negative, Playful characters, Glossy 3D, Folded ribbon, Monoline character, Geometric expression, Coloured frosted glass, Matte tinted silhouette, Halloween, Y2K liquid chrome, Pixel art, Neon tube, Die-cut sticker and Minimal line. Once a picture is added, only these styles are listed. 4. **Choose Clean or Detailed and generate.** Your icon is saved to [My icons](https://aiiconcreator.com/my-creations) like any other. ### What makes a good source picture - **One clear subject**, reasonably large in the frame. - **A simple background.** Clutter behind the subject can end up in the icon. - **The angle you want.** The icon keeps the subject's recognisable shape, so a clean side or three-quarter view works best. - **Enough resolution** to see the shape. Blurry or tiny pictures give the model less to work with. If your picture has a busy background, remove it first with the [background remover](https://aiiconcreator.com/tools/background-remover). ### Using a logo as the source picture A logo is often wider than it is tall and may include your company name. For an app icon: 1. Describe only the symbol, for example "a stylised mountain peak", not the whole wordmark. 2. Leave the text out. App icons read best without words; see [how to write a prompt for an app icon](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/write-an-icon-prompt). 3. Try a couple of styles. Clean flat and Glossy 3D usually keep a symbol's shape closest. Only upload logos and pictures you have the right to use. See [commercial use and copyright](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/commercial-use-and-copyright). ### Frequently asked questions ### Will the icon look exactly like my photo? No. It keeps what makes the subject recognisable, such as its shape and key parts, and redraws everything else in the chosen style. For a closer match, write a more specific description. ### Who can see the pictures I upload? Your pictures are used only for your own generations and are kept with your account. They are never shown in a public gallery. See our [privacy policy](https://aiiconcreator.com/privacy-policy) for details. ### Which styles can I use with a picture? Clean flat, Clay 3D, Refined metal, Edge negative, Playful characters, Glossy 3D, Folded ribbon, Monoline character, Geometric expression, Coloured frosted glass, Matte tinted silhouette, Halloween, Y2K liquid chrome, Pixel art, Neon tube, Die-cut sticker and Minimal line. After you add a picture, the style list shows only these, so any style you see will work. --- ### Download Your App Icon: PNG, Icon Pack, SVG and PSD URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/download-and-export To download an app icon, open it from [My icons](https://aiiconcreator.com/my-creations) or the finished result in the studio and use **Download & export**. **Download icon** gives you the original PNG. **App icon pack** gives you a ZIP with every size iOS, Android and the web need. **SVG** and **PSD layers** are included with Pro and Max plans and with credit packs. ### Which format should I download? | Format | Use it for | | -------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | PNG (original) | Design files, mockups, slides, or anywhere you need one large image | | App icon pack | Shipping an app: Xcode, Android Studio, a website or a web app | | SVG | Websites, Figma and further vector editing (Pro, Max or a credit pack; not every style) | | PSD layers | Editing individual parts in Photoshop (Pro, Max or a credit pack) | ### PNG: the original icon The PNG is a full, opaque square with no rounded corners, at least 1024 × 1024 pixels. App stores and phones add the rounded shape themselves, so this is exactly what they expect. The one exception is **Fused glass**, whose PNG comes with the phone icon outline already applied. Need a transparent background, for example for a logo? Run the PNG through the [background remover](https://aiiconcreator.com/tools/background-remover). ### App icon pack: every size in one ZIP The pack is built from your icon in seconds and includes a `README.txt` explaining each folder. - **iOS**: open your project in Xcode, delete the existing `AppIcon` in your asset catalog, and drag in `ios/AppIcon.appiconset`. It contains a single 1024 px icon, and Xcode creates the smaller sizes. - **Android**: copy the contents of `android/res` into your app's `app/src/main/res` folder. It includes launcher icons for five screen densities, round icons and an adaptive icon for Android 8 and later. Icons in flat styles also get a monochrome layer for Android 13's themed icons; the README in the pack says whether yours has one. Upload `android/play-store-512.png` as your Google Play store icon. - **Web**: copy the files in `web/` to your site's root and paste `head-snippet.html` into your page's ``. Add your app's name to `site.webmanifest` if you want it installable as a web app. Before you submit to a store, check the [App Store and Google Play icon requirements](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/app-icon-requirements). For the full size list, see our [app icon size guide](https://aiiconcreator.com/blog/app-icon-sizes-guide). ### SVG: vector outlines **SVG** converts the icon into vector shapes you can scale and edit in Figma or on a website. It's included with Pro and Max plans and with credit packs; on other plans the button shows how to get it. - Not every style converts cleanly, so SVG only appears for icons that do. Glass and metal styles don't offer it. - Similar colours may be merged into one, and fine lighting effects are simplified. - Use the PNG or the icon pack for app store submissions. The first conversion of an icon uses credits, shown on the button. Downloading the same icon's SVG again doesn't charge again. ### PSD layers **PSD layers** split the icon into separate layers you can move and recolour in Photoshop. Like SVG, it's included with Pro and Max plans and with credit packs. - The layers are redrawn by AI, so colours can differ slightly from the original, and the AI decides how the icon is split into parts. - A hidden **Original (reference)** layer is included so you can compare. - Splitting takes about a minute; you can keep working meanwhile. If it fails, your credits are returned automatically. - Once an icon has been split, downloading its PSD again is free. ### Frequently asked questions ### Does downloading a PNG or the icon pack cost credits? No. The PNG and the app icon pack are free to download as many times as you like. Only SVG and PSD layers use credits, and the cost is shown on the button. ### Why don't I see SVG or PSD for my icon? SVG and PSD come with Pro and Max plans and with credit packs, and SVG isn't offered for every style (glass and metal don't convert cleanly). If you already exported an icon's SVG or PSD, downloading it again stays free on any plan. The PNG and the app icon pack are always available; see the [plans](https://aiiconcreator.com/pricing). ### Should I round the corners before uploading to the App Store? No. Upload the square icon. Apple and Google apply the rounded shape automatically. See [app icon requirements](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/app-icon-requirements). --- ### App Store and Google Play Icon Requirements (2026) URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/app-icon-requirements App stores want a **square, opaque icon without rounded corners**: 1024 × 1024 pixels for the Apple App Store and 512 × 512 pixels for Google Play. Both platforms round the corners themselves, so adding your own corners, borders or shadows makes the icon look wrong. Below are the app icon requirements for each platform. Icons made in AI Icon Creator already follow them, and the [app icon pack](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/download-and-export) includes the exact files each store asks for. ### Apple App Store (iOS and iPadOS) - **Size:** 1024 × 1024 pixels. Xcode can create every smaller size from this one image. - **Shape:** provide a full square. The system applies the rounded mask, and pre-rounded or inset artwork looks wrong once it's masked. - **Background:** fully opaque. Transparent areas aren't accepted. - **Colour space:** sRGB or Display P3. - **Text:** include words only when they're essential. Apple notes that small text is hard to read and can't be localised. - **Appearances:** people can show home screen icons in default, dark, clear or tinted appearances, so the icon's core shape should stay recognisable in each. Source: Apple's [Human Interface Guidelines for app icons](https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/app-icons). ### Google Play store listing - **Size:** 512 × 512 pixels, 32-bit PNG, sRGB, up to 1024 KB. - **Shape:** a full square. Google Play applies a corner radius equal to 30% of the icon's size, and adds its own shadow. - **Don't** round the corners, add a drop shadow, or use text or badges that suggest rankings, deals or awards. Source: Google's [icon design specifications for Google Play](https://developer.android.com/distribute/google-play/resources/icon-design-specifications). ### Android adaptive icons (inside the app) On Android 8 and later, the launcher icon is an **adaptive icon** made of a foreground and a background layer. Each device maker applies its own shape: a circle, a squircle or a rounded square. - **Layer size:** 108 × 108 dp. - **Visible area:** the inner 72 × 72 dp. The outer 18 dp on each side is used for masking and motion effects. - **Safe zone:** keep the main artwork inside a 66 dp circle in the centre so no mask cuts it off. - **Themed icons (Android 13 and later):** when the user turns on themed icons, the launcher tints a one-colour **monochrome** layer to match the wallpaper. The app icon pack's `android/res` folder already contains an adaptive icon. The whole icon fills the 72 dp visible area, so round and squircle masks trim its corners; most subjects sit well inside the safe zone, but artwork that reaches the corners, such as a large line drawing, can lose a little at the edges. For flat styles the pack also includes the monochrome layer, sized inside the safe zone; for styles without a clean one-colour shape (3D, glass, metal, gradient backgrounds) it is left out, and Android shows the colour icon instead. Source: Android's [adaptive icon guide](https://developer.android.com/develop/ui/views/launch/icon_design_adaptive). ### Check your icon at real sizes Open the icon from [My icons](https://aiiconcreator.com/my-creations) and use **Check at real sizes** to see it at 64, 32 and 29 pixels, on a dark or light background, square or with a rounded preview. If details disappear at 29 pixels, simplify the icon with an [edit](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/edit-an-icon) such as "Fewer details". Our guide to [keeping icons legible at small sizes](https://aiiconcreator.com/blog/small-size-icon-legibility) has more ideas. ### App icon requirements checklist 1. The file is a square PNG: 1024 × 1024 for the App Store, 512 × 512 for Google Play. 2. Corners are square, with no rounded corners, border or drop shadow. 3. The background is fully opaque for the App Store. 4. There's no text, or only a single essential letter. 5. The subject is still recognisable at 29–40 pixels. 6. The main artwork fits inside the Android safe zone. ### Frequently asked questions ### Do I need to add rounded corners to my app icon? No. Both iOS and Google Play round the corners automatically. Upload the full square icon. ### Can an iOS app icon have a transparent background? No. The App Store icon must be fully opaque. Icons from AI Icon Creator are opaque by default, except Fused glass, whose PNG has transparent corners; use the icon pack's iOS file for that style. ### What size should my app icon be? Design and export at 1024 × 1024 pixels. The [app icon pack](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/download-and-export) creates every smaller size for iOS, Android and the web from it. See the full list in our [app icon size guide](https://aiiconcreator.com/blog/app-icon-sizes-guide). --- ### How Credits Work: Costs, Balance and Expiry URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/how-credits-work Credits pay for the work the AI does for you: generating an icon, creating a new version with an edit, converting to SVG or PSD, and running the image tools. **Every button shows how many credits it will use before you click**, and downloading your icons is always free. ### What uses credits | Action | Credits | | ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------ | | Generate an icon | Yes, the same for Clean and Detailed | | Adjust an icon (new version) | Yes, shown in the adjust window | | SVG or PSD layers | Yes, the first time for each icon | | Image tools such as the background remover or upscaler | Yes, shown on each tool | | Downloading the PNG or the app icon pack | Free | | Downloading an SVG or PSD you've already made | Free | | Checking an icon at real sizes, renaming, deleting | Free | Current prices are always on the button itself and on the [pricing page](https://aiiconcreator.com/pricing). ### Where to check your balance - **In the studio**, your balance is shown at the top of the page. - **In the account menu**, the **Credits** row shows your balance and links to the full history. - **On the [credits page](https://aiiconcreator.com/settings/credits)**, you'll find your balance, every credit you've received or used, and when each batch expires. ### When credits expire Credits come in batches, and each batch has its own expiry date: - **Monthly plans**: each month's credits last until the end of that billing month. - **Yearly plans**: credits arrive every month, and each month's credits last until the end of that month. - **Credit packs**: one year from purchase. - **Sign-up credits**: 7 days. You'll find every batch's date in the **Expires** column on the [credits page](https://aiiconcreator.com/settings/credits). Credits that expire soonest are used first, so you don't lose them. See the [pricing page](https://aiiconcreator.com/pricing) for plans and credit packs. ### When you don't have enough credits If a generation would need more credits than you have, the studio shows "You're out of credits" with a link to get more. Nothing is charged. You can top up from the [pricing page](https://aiiconcreator.com/pricing). ### Credits are never charged for refused settings If a colour or setting doesn't work with a style, or you've reached the limit of 4 icons at once, the request is stopped before it starts and **no credits are used**. If a generation starts but doesn't finish, the credits are returned automatically; see [what happens when a generation fails](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/failed-generations-and-refunds). ### Frequently asked questions ### Do credits expire? Yes. Each batch of credits has an expiry date, shown on the [credits page](https://aiiconcreator.com/settings/credits). Credits closest to expiring are used first. ### Is downloading an icon free? Yes. The original PNG and the app icon pack can be downloaded as often as you like at no cost. ### Where can I see what I spent credits on? On the [credits page](https://aiiconcreator.com/settings/credits). Use the **Used** tab to see only credits you've used. --- ### What Happens to Credits When a Generation Fails URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/failed-generations-and-refunds If a generation, an edit, an SVG or PSD export, or an image tool doesn't return a result, **your credits are returned automatically**. You don't need to contact us or request anything. Settings that can't work are stopped before they start, so they never use credits in the first place. ### When credits are returned - **An icon or an adjustment doesn't finish.** The tile shows "This one didn't work out. Your credits were returned." - **The queue is too long.** We wait up to **20 minutes** for an icon. If it still hasn't finished, the request is cancelled and your credits are returned. - **A PSD layer split fails.** You'll see "The layer split failed. Your credits were returned." - **Any other export fails.** Credits charged for it are returned. - **An image tool fails**, for example the background remover or upscaler. ### When nothing is charged at all These are checked before anything starts, so no credits are used: - A colour or setting that doesn't work with the style, such as a colour that's too light or too dark. See [colours and advanced settings](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/icon-colors-and-settings). - Already having 4 icons or adjustments running. Wait for one to finish and try again. - Not having enough credits. ### How long should I wait? Most icons finish in **1–3 minutes**. Detailed icons in a few styles usually need **5–10 minutes**. If an icon takes more than 10 minutes, its tile tells you the queue is long; you can leave the page, and the icon, or your returned credits, will be waiting when you come back. ### How to try again On a failed tile, click the **Try again** button (the circular arrow) to send the same request again with the same subject, style and settings. If the same icon keeps failing, try: 1. Shortening the prompt to one clear subject. See [how to write a prompt](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/write-an-icon-prompt). 2. Switching between Clean and Detailed. 3. Trying another style. ### How returned credits show up Your balance goes back up as soon as the credits are returned. In your [credit history](https://aiiconcreator.com/settings/credits), the original charge stays in the list; there's no separate "returned" line. ### Credits returned vs money refunds Returning credits for a failed task is automatic, but it isn't a cash refund. Refunds for purchases follow our [refund policy](https://aiiconcreator.com/refund-policy). If your balance doesn't look right, [contact support](https://aiiconcreator.com/settings/tickets) with the rough time and what you were doing, and we'll check it. ### Frequently asked questions ### Do I lose credits if I close the page while an icon is generating? No. Generation keeps running after you leave, and the finished icon appears in [My icons](https://aiiconcreator.com/my-creations). If it fails, the credits are returned whether the page is open or not. ### How long until failed credits come back? As soon as the task is marked as failed. For a stuck icon, that's at most 20 minutes after you started it. ### Can I get my money back instead of credits? Returned credits aren't converted to cash. See our [refund policy](https://aiiconcreator.com/refund-policy) for purchase refunds. --- ### Can I Use AI-Generated App Icons Commercially? URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/commercial-use-and-copyright Yes. Under our [terms of service](https://aiiconcreator.com/terms-of-service), as long as you follow them, the icons and exported files you create belong to you, and you can use them for **personal or commercial purposes**: in your app, on your website, in marketing and in app store listings. This page summarises what that means in practice. It isn't legal advice; the [terms of service](https://aiiconcreator.com/terms-of-service) are the binding version. ### Commercial use: what you can do - Ship the icon in a paid or free app, on any platform. - Use it on your website, in ads, in screenshots and in app store listings. - Edit it further in other tools, including the SVG and PSD files you export. - Keep using it after your plan or credits run out. Icons you've made stay yours. ### Copyright and trademarks: things to know - **AI results aren't guaranteed to be unique.** Other people may get similar icons, especially from short, common prompts. Making your icon more specific and editing it makes it more distinctive. - **Copyright protection for AI-generated content depends on your country.** Whether an AI-generated icon can be registered or protected by copyright varies by jurisdiction, and we can't guarantee it. - **Before using an icon as a trademark or logo**, search existing trademarks and brands to make sure it doesn't conflict with them. A trademark lawyer can help if the mark matters to your business. ### What isn't allowed - **Copying someone else's brand.** Don't use the service to imitate another company's trademark, logo, mascot or characters, including by uploading them as a picture. - **Uploading pictures you don't have the right to use.** When you [turn a picture into an icon](https://aiiconcreator.com/help/photo-to-app-icon), you confirm you're allowed to use it. - **Training AI models.** You may not use icons or exported files from the service to train, fine-tune or develop any AI or machine learning model. ### Your content and privacy We don't use the descriptions, pictures or icons you submit or create to train AI models, and your icons aren't shown in any public gallery. Read the [privacy policy](https://aiiconcreator.com/privacy-policy) for details on how your content is stored and deleted. ### Frequently asked questions ### Do I need to credit AI Icon Creator when I use an icon? No attribution is required. The icons you create are yours to use. ### Can I use an AI-generated icon as my company logo? You can, but check existing trademarks first, and keep in mind that other users may receive similar results. Editing the icon to make it more distinctive helps. ### Can I sell icons I made? The icons are yours to use commercially, including as part of your product. Selling them to others in a way that breaks our terms, such as for training AI models, isn't allowed. --- ### AI Icon Creator FAQ: Quick Answers URL: https://aiiconcreator.com/help/faq Short answers to the questions we hear most. You describe one subject, pick one of 20 styles and get a square, store-ready app icon in a few minutes. You can then edit it, check it at real sizes and download a PNG or an icon pack with every iOS, Android and web size. **How long does it take to generate an app icon?** Most icons are ready in 1 to 3 minutes. Detailed icons in a few styles usually take 5 to 10 minutes. Generation runs in the background, so you can keep working or leave the page. **My icon is taking a long time. What should I do?** Nothing. You can leave the page and the icon will appear in My icons when it's done. We wait up to 20 minutes; if an icon still hasn't finished, it's cancelled and your credits are returned automatically. **My generation failed. Did I lose my credits?** No. If an icon, an edit, an export or an image tool fails, the credits are returned automatically. Click the Try again button (the circular arrow) on the failed tile to run it again with the same settings. **Why doesn't my icon look like what I described?** Usually because the prompt describes a scene or several objects. Describe one subject plus one detail that makes it recognisable, leave style and colour words out, and try another style if needed. You can also edit just one area of the icon instead of starting over. **Can I put text or my app name in the icon?** We recommend against it. Text is hard to read at icon sizes and often comes out misspelled. A single letter works well, especially in the Glossy 3D style. **Why was my colour rejected?** Some styles need enough contrast to stay readable, so a colour that's too light, too dark or too close to another colour is flagged. Choose a mid-tone or a recommended colour. Flagged colours never use credits. **How many icons can I generate at once?** Up to 4 generations and adjustments can run at the same time. When one finishes, you can start another. **Do I need to add rounded corners before uploading to the App Store or Google Play?** No. Upload the full square icon. iOS and Google Play apply the rounded shape themselves, and pre-rounded corners look wrong after masking. **Is downloading my icon free?** Yes. The original PNG and the app icon pack are free to download as often as you like. Only SVG and PSD layers use credits (they come with Pro, Max and credit packs), and only the first time for each icon. **How do I make a set of icons that match?** Use the same style for every icon, choose the same recommended colour or HEX value instead of Auto, and write each prompt the same way: one subject and one key detail. **Which styles can I use with a picture?** Clean flat, Edge negative, Geometric expression, Pixel art, Die-cut sticker, Minimal line, Clay 3D, Glossy 3D, Folded ribbon, Matte tinted silhouette, Halloween, Refined metal, Coloured frosted glass, Y2K liquid chrome, Neon tube, Playful characters and Monoline character. After you add a picture, the style list shows only these. **Can I use the icons commercially?** Yes. Under our terms, the icons you create belong to you and can be used for personal or commercial purposes. Check existing trademarks before using an icon as a logo. **Where are my icons saved?** In My icons, together with every version you made.
